  • Blare- This is onomatopoeia for a loud sound, this relates to a rock themed magazine as rock music is loud and aggressive and so is a suitable name for my magazine. At first glance the reader is more likely to relate the magazine to rock genre or around this area rather than any others.
  • Hammer- I have chose this as it is literal heavy metal, it is a blunt instrument and makes a loud sound when used. It is relatable to my music genre and would not be the name of another genre or theme. It also implies a hint of danger and anger.
  • Revolver-A revolver is a type of gun which similarly to hammer, makes loud bangs when used which links to rock music which is loud, it also implies danger as it is a weapon.
  • Blackout- I think that this could be an appropriate name for my magazine as the connotations of black usually link to my music genre and theme. And these themes would attract my target audience.

To aid me in creating my music magazine, we did a photo shoot to take primary pictures for my music magazine. I took a range of close ups, mid shots and long shots to aid me in creating my music magazine. The theme of my magazine is rock, so the costumes and props I used are which were contingent with this theme. We also did lots of shots as a group of 4 who were all doing rock themed magazines. This way we could share images and do shots which were in a rock band style using props such as microphones, guitars, drums, keyboards and Amps.

Initially we did close up shots of everyone individually using natural lighting, we also took pictures of instruments and different angles and focuses. We did a few mid shots of individuals and some of two people. The pictures are probably more likely to be used on the double page spread and contents page more than the front cover.

We then went outside to take pictures again different walls, the first was on a black run down wall which captured the rock vibe on the magazine. We took high angle shots of all 4 of us against the wall. We then went to another wall and took mid shots-long shots of us, the first was similar to that of the others but the second we decided to take another where i looked like we were taking 'selfies' this is to appeal to the target audience which is young people between the age of 15-20, this appeals to them as it relatable to them and make them feel like that they are on the same level. We also had photos taken where we were in mid shots of us all on separate instrument, these pictures were to show us using the stereotypical instruments used in rock performances such as drums and electric guitars.

Finally, we then went to a green screen and white back ground to do shots for the front cover of the magazines. The pictures taken were of 3 band members the majority were mid shots and low shots around props like amps and guitars. The majority of pictures taken were of one person sitting on the amp and two people on either side with instruments. We did a few pictures using the green screen such as photos of the band members holding the world. These images are suitable for the main cover due to the green screen to replace the back ground easily and the face that they are mid and low shots so would suit a cover very easily. We also did some fast action shots by have a very fast shutter speed on the cameras to show someone using a guitar as a bat which could be used for the contents, cover and double page spread.

These are pictures in which were taken during our photo shoot. I believe that these are the best images as they entail pictures at all different camera angles including Mid-shots, Close ups, Extreme Close ups, Low angle and High angle shots. It shows singular shots of separate band members and also us as a band.

This is a b question I answered on bauer media and how they developed using digital medias.
What significance does the continuing development of digital media technology have for media institutions and audience?

The continuing development of digital media has many effects for media institutions and consumers of their media products. I believe that digital technology poses a risk for media institutions; I think this because sales of print magazines have dropped since the advances in technology. For example, in 2007, the number of print magazines sold was 1.21 billion but last year this figure has dramatically dropped to 781 million last year. Also, Marcus Rich, chief executive of IPC Media says that “Magazine chiefs must urge industry changes from burning a platform to growth.” Companies have also had significant economic losses; Future publishing reported a 35.4 million pre-tax loss in 2014, cutting more than 400 staff, over 40% of its work force. This is because these media institutions have failed to adapt to a changing market from print magazines to digital media.  This shows that the advancements of digital media can help a company if they use it correctly, but if a company does not adapt quickly enough then they will fall under economically.

A company which has been able to adapt to the changes and development of media technology is Bauer Media Group. They were formed in 1953 with the launch of the Angling times and then the acquisition of Motor Cycle News in 1956. In !990 they acquired dance station Kiss FM, Radio City and Melody FM which is now leading radio station Magic 105.4.  It further developed to more digital platforms in 1996 when they acquired digital channel ‘The Box’ which is now a 7 channel venture with Channel 4. This shows that since its formation in 1953 it has been constantly converging itself through different platforms of media.  Bauer Media has greatly benefited from this due it now covering over 80 influential brand names. Bauer Media own magazines which have several different platforms. For example, they will have magazines which will have websites, TV channels and radio stations all under the same name, this is called multi-platform media. The reason for these changes throughout media is for several reasons; the first being the convenience of being able to buy and read magazines online. People in today’s society may not have the time to go out and buy a magazine from a shop due to them having busy schedules or working late, so being able to buy the magazine at any time of the day without the time wasted buying a print copy is very convenient. It also allows for a wider audience to access the media. The technology used in online or e-magazines maybe more flexible and improve the magazine, for example, the use of videos in e-magazines when covering an event whereas a print magazine would never be able to do this. Online media development is also more economical as typing a magazine online is cheaper than printing it out as you do not have to pay for the costs of delivery, printing, paper and ink.  So charging the same price online means that the company will be making a larger profit off their products. All these things are successful for Bauer media as statistics show that 73% (37.7 million) of adults in the UK have accessed Bauer Media products across digital and print platforms. Also media only accessible through mobiles adds an average of further 46% audience reach to their foot print and have revenue of 2.4 billion euros a year.

Kerrang! Is one of the media brands owned by Bauer Media. Kerrang! is converged over several different media platforms. They have Kerrang! Magazine, a radio station, a TV channel and their own separate website from Bauer Medias which are all examples of cross media convergence. This gives them a wider demographic as they are more available. Due to Kerrang! converging to different platforms they have seen a 9.4% increase in readership of their magazine including PC visitors. They have an annual 60,000 visitors to their website and average about 635,000 readers of their print title.

In the past few years there have been many hints from Green Day's very own Billie Joe Armstrong about big plans for the band in 2016; even more so since their induction into the ‘Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’ earlier this year.  As a result of their success in 2016, the front man has agreed to share some of the finer details with us about their latest goings on.

So Billie, 2016 without a doubt, has been a huge benchmark for Greenday; do you plan on keeping the ball rolling?

There's definitely a great spirit going on. We've always been pretty charged up. Before we found any of this out, I had already written a few songs and everybody was really excited by them. And then we heard about the Hall of Fame and we were just blown away. Yeah, I mean, we're going to take our time. We're not going to try and pull off some like, victory lap over this because I definitely want the music to come from a real place and be inspired, not just because we got honoured or anything like that, but because we're honouring music. We want to work on them, and we want to make a great album.

There has been talk of a few songs which we are all going to love when the album is released, what can you tell us about this?

I've got four or five songs right now. I'm gonna take it really slow. I'm just gonna make sure every moment is inspired and that we have something that's really special to us. And right now with the songs that we have, it's going in the right direction.

What was your favourite part of your induction into the ‘Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’?

Um...I think it was playing with John, just because it was something I never expected to ever happen again. And when it did, it was really fun. I also really enjoyed how I got to play with Ringo that night; I’m a huge Beatles fan and it was an honour.

What do you think you would be doing if you had never have formed ‘Sweet Children’?

I don't know to be honest, I’ve always been into music and it's always been the only thing I had ever been into.  I’ve been in my high school band since I was 14, so there's been a lot of life within the time period that we've been around. We're really fortunate in that way but I would've probably ended up in the industry somewhere.

At this point you have a huge fan base and you must receive a lot of attention.  What is your opinion on this?

Well, if it wasn't for our fans then we wouldn't be here and I couldn't be more thankful to them. We just try our best to stay out of the negative limelight. Sometimes people do bother us, so we have to be very low-key if we want to do anything. Like, uh in Cleveland for our induction, we snuck in there so we didn't receive any hassle.

What was with all the secrecy?

Honestly, it was because my family wanted to go bowling!  We went bowling at a bowling alley a couple of blocks away. My mother's a really good bowler. [Laughs]

So, finally, if you had to guess, do you think there will be a new album next year?

I can't say...
Coverlines I will be using for my magazine cover include:

  • "Moose Blood! Kyle Todd Reveals All"
  • "ZZ! Inside Story Of New Upcoming Band"
  • Green Day: "Album of Our Lives"
  • "UKs Biggest Gig Guide"
