Evaluation

This is where I will evaluate my progress, stages and steps I took to through the course.
This is an evaluation of my preliminary task

Question 1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Question 2: How does your media product represent particular social groups?
(Magazine is directed at a C1 and C2 Audience between the demographic of 15-30, people who have a disposable income to buy gig tickets, take part in competitions and spend average amounts of money on magazines)
Question 3: What kind of media institution may distribute your product and why?

Question 4: Who would be the audience for your media product?

Questions 5: How did you attract address your audience?

Question 6: What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this
product?
Throughout the process of construct my media product I have used a wide range of technologies this includes; Photoshop, Pageplus, Photoplus, GIMP, Paint.net, Cutout Studio, Logo Studio, SLR Cameras, Slideshare, Prezi, Bandicam and finally Blogger. I have already shown parts of using these technologies already on my blog.
To begin with I started with a piece of lined paper, my original idea consisted of using just this piece and black ink effects to highlight this type of genre but it seemed too childish and and did not match with what people wanted from my survey.

I then decided to add a translucent filter over the piece of paper which was red in colour, this looked very bare so I then added a silhouette of a city skyline to give the magazine cover a more urban feel  I did this by finding a picture of a skyline, removing the background using cut out studio, then using the colour fill tool to make it completely black. I added two translucent white rings into the background do the cover and gave it a texture similar to the earth from outer space, this was to show non-verbal communication that the band was "taking over the world" when I added the image. One I added the base image it looked like it did not fit very well so I added a drop shadow which was initially sharp but this did not fit correctly looking very amateurish in design, so I used the FX tool to blur the shadow slightly to make it blend more. I cutout the name using Image Cutout Studio, using Dafont for the basis of my text.

I then added black boxouts onto the  side of the magazine taking into consideration the rule of thirds. I organised the text so that the main image is still very visible and eye catching to the audience. I then used a font which looked hand written to make it look more informal and relate to the social groups more easily. I then added a white outline around the text using the FX tools. For the Greenday I used a white translucent text box to try and cover the legs of the photo where it does not blending into the skyline very well. This was successful. In my original design I used a different font for Greenday but I thought it would increase the use of my house style if I used the same font but made it Green to show connotations of the band Greenday.  The Box around album of my lives I designed myself around the text to make it jump out of the page. I also used a different eroded font at the bottom of the magazine to show bands and artists which are featured in this issue. I then added two pictures to the site of the main image of a guitar and two artists back to back, I made them crooked to make it suit the rest of the magazine and its informal style, giving it white borders to give it a more Polaroid look. Finally I added in an aux cord I cut out my self and then added the strap line under the mast head. For the circle with "UKs Biggest Gig Guide" I made a ring using quick shapes on Photoplus, I then converted it into a image cutout studio and cut out the centre, originally I had it as the whole shape but it just stuck out too much compared to all the messy paint and eroded fonts I had already used. so I decided to make it look like the broken circle using cut out studio and then moving the particles around.
To create my spray paint I used a variety of different softwares to create the effects starting with a simple spray on effect on GIMP make the paint more and more detail using different tools such as photo lab.

Here is how I created the star border on my contents page I used a star I had already created using image manipulation software such as paint.net and Photoshop with additional plugins to create the 3-D eroded effect on the initial star. I then used the FilterEffect program to take the shine off the image so that when put onto a back ground it would blend in. I then inverted the colours so the stars will stand out on the black background. I then used the burn tool to make it darker I layered over it about 3 times to get the desired shades of grey, burning some areas further until completely black to add extra detail. I then used a 3D bump map to indent the stars into the background so that it looked like one image not stars layered over the initial rectangle.
This was the easiest star to create. Using a star quick shape on photo-plus then selecting the centre of the star and pasting in a chequered pattern.
In the development of my products tools and software I have used consists of:
Photoshop
Photoplus
Pageplus
Filter Gallery
Photo Fix
Cutout Studio
Pressure Studio
Paint.Net
Graphics Tablet
DLR Camera
Burn/Dodge Tools
Clone and Pattern Tools
Airbrush
Lithography
Bump maps and embossing
Prezi
Slideshare
Outline, Inner Shadow, Drop Shadow, Inner and Outer Glows

Question 7: Look back at your preliminary task how do you think that you have learnt from the progression to the full product?
